Meet George Scheld

George Scheld is considered has one of the most experienced and accomplished private investigators in New York State. He is among a small group of private investigators across the nation who segued into the industry with a legal background and additional expertise in claims and insurance fraud.

In addition to his private investigator’s license, Mr. Scheld possesses an NYS General Adjuster’s license and is an award-winning paralegal. He has appeared on more than 40 radio and television shows as a guest expert and displays an extensive knowledge of information technology, municipal research, fraud detection, undercover operations, surveillance techniques in urban and rural environments, locates, trial preparation, asset detection, background investigations, criminal investigations, and statement-taking procedures, as well as ocean marine and freight claims.

Mr. Scheld attended college under a full baseball scholarship, graduating from St. John's University in Jamaica, NY, and for his graduate degree he attended Adelphi University.

George started his white-collar career with the Big Eight accounting firm Ernst & Whiney, where his background in auditing was born. He conducted beneficiary locates, as well as compliance in the Trusts, Estates, and Wills department of the international law office Kelly, Drye and Warren, which is located in New York City, before landing in the Tax division at the law department for Equitable Life, where he spent three years as a paralegal overseeing compliance.

It was from there that he springboarded into the private investigations industry, working three years at Regal Investigations, the mandatory period required before you are eligible to apply for your own license. Three years later, George started up his own investigative firm with partner Michael Broschart, forming the highly successful firm of Broschart & Scheld Inc, which became one of the three largest investigations companies in New York State. Mr. Scheld grew the company from two employees and gross revenue of $120,000 to 21 employees and gross revenue approaching $2 million dollars. After a decade with that enterprise and huge strides in the industry, Mr. Scheld went solo, forming George Scheld Investigations Inc in 2000, a company that is still out there making a difference, one life at a time.

Mr. Scheld has given countless seminars to attorneys, CPAs, claims reps, other private investigators, and lay people on a diverse range of topics. He has spoken at the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Nassau County Bar Association, American Woman in Claims, Claims Association of America, and the Suffolk County Bar Association, among others.

Topics include Surveillance Techniques, The Use of Database Technology in Investigating Insurance Fraud, The Changing Faces of Investigations in The Digital Age, Investigating Freight and Marine Losses, and The Most Economical Methodologies to Proceed With Investigations. He has also given speeches covering his undercover work, as well as seminars covering How to Become a Private Investigator.

George hosts interns from two universities and has spoken at several career forums, offering insights and advice to high school and university students interested in the field. He is currently authoring a book on the realities of the private investigations industry and he has been approached to pilot a radio talk show called “Private Eyes on America,” which is scheduled to air shortly.

Mr. Scheld has worked hundreds of multi-million dollar cases, as well as high profile cases and files exploited by the media. He views his segue into the investigation field as a calling and not a career.
